Male Facelift and Neck Lift

Aesthetic Surgery and Treatments for the Modern Man

A common phenomenon affects many men as they age: they no longer recognize the person they see in the mirror. Sagging skin, jowls, wrinkles, and loss of facial volume or definition can obscure the unique facial quality they once possessed. Male facelift surgery has become increasingly popular over the years, allowing men to recapture youthful yet masculine contours with natural-looking results that last.

Dr. David Stephens is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Bellevue, WA, who has been performing advanced facelift techniques throughout his career. Trained under endoscopic facial surgery pioneer Dr. Bruce Connell, Dr. Stephens continues to incorporate the most advanced techniques and technologies into his practice. Today, he is renowned for his individualized approach, exceptional patient care, and the subtle, refined yet profound results he produces. His practice draws patients from across the Pacific Northwest who want results that look refreshed and authentic rather than surgically altered.

Because Dr. Stephens lifts and repositions the deeper structural layers rather than relying solely on skin tightening, his facelift and neck lift patients enjoy more natural facial movement, longer-lasting rejuvenation, and beautifully healed incisions.

What Is a Male Facelift?

The male facelift is a facial plastic surgery procedure designed to address the specific needs and unique anatomy of the male face. Like a traditional facelift, the objective of a male facelift is to address signs of aging, including loose skin, deep wrinkles, and loss of facial definition.

Male facelift techniques require special attention to hair patterns, skin thickness, beard follicles, and the natural squareness of the jawline to avoid feminizing the features.

For many patients, the neck is an area that shows early signs of aging. These may include sagging skin, neck banding, a double chin, and loss of jawline definition. Dr. Stephens often includes a neck lift in his facelift procedures to achieve a smooth, continuous appearance and to mitigate the need for additional procedures. For men, a neck lift is a particularly significant component of facial rejuvenation because it restores masculine definition to the jawline, enhancing the contours of the face and neck.

What Are the Benefits of a Male Facelift?

A male facelift is the ultimate facial rejuvenation solution, which is why many patients choose this procedure to refresh and extend their youthful appearance while enhancing masculine features. Male facelift benefits extend beyond the aesthetic to the psychological and social realms.

How Is a Male Facelift and Neck Lift Performed?

The particulars of a male facelift and neck lift are highly personalized according to your surgical plan. Nevertheless, you can expect the following details to remain consistent across most facial surgeries.

Consultation

A detailed, private consultation is the first step in any surgical procedure. During your initial consultation, you and Dr. Stephens will discuss your goals and concerns. Dr. Stephens will then examine your facial anatomy and may review old photos to determine how aging and environmental factors have affected your facial structure and features. He will then make recommendations and design a customized surgical plan.

The Male Facelift and Neck Lift Procedure

The male facelift and neck lift is an outpatient procedure performed in our QUAD A-certified surgical facility. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, administered by our board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Harold Brandford.

Dr. Stephens will place initial incisions within the hairline and behind the ears. He then meticulously dissects the deeper layers of the face, repositioning tissues in the midface and lower face.

For the neck, Dr. Stephens makes a submental incision (under the chin) to access the platysma muscle, selectively adjusts the submandibular region when appropriate, and manipulates or removes fat to achieve a more youthful neck and a tighter jawline.

After the deep work is completed, Dr. Stephens redrapes the skin and delicately closes the incisions with precision. Dr. Stephens’ facelift techniques ensure a virtually bloodless procedure with minimal bruising and a shorter recovery period.

Because Dr. Stephens favors deeper structural lifting, minimal tension is placed on the incision lines. This improves the appearance of incisions and scar formation, so your incision lines are barely noticeable after healing.

What Procedures Can I Combine With a Male Facelift and Neck Lift?

Aging affects multiple areas of the face simultaneously. Dr. Stephens often recommends combination procedures to patients, resulting in comprehensive facial rejuvenation and a more balanced outcome.

Dr. Stephens may recommend one of the following procedures to complement the results of your male facelift and your overall aesthetic goals:

  • Eyelid Surgery: Sagging skin in the upper eyelids or under-eye bags in the lower lids can interfere with your vision, severely age the face, and make you look permanently tired or angry. An upper or lower blepharoplasty removes and repositions excess skin and fat to achieve a brighter, more rested appearance.
  • Brow Lift: This procedure corrects a sagging brow, creating a more open and youthful appearance across the forehead and around the eyes.
  • Skin Resurfacing: Laser treatments can treat deep wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, and other surface skin imperfections that detract from the appearance.

The male facelift is highly customizable. At your consultation appointment, Dr. Stephens will provide recommendations for combination procedures tailored to your goals and concerns. Dr. Stephens takes a conservative approach to surgery, only performing what he believes is necessary to achieve a natural, balanced result.

What Is Male Facelift and Neck Lift Recovery Like?

Dr. Stephens utilizes advanced surgical techniques that often lead to enhanced recovery.

Dr. Stephens utilizes advanced surgical techniques that often lead to enhanced recovery.

  • Patients may need a day or two to recover from anesthesia. It is important to begin gentle movement, including walking, the day after surgery. This promotes circulation, prevents blood clots, and helps your body sweep residual anesthesia from your system.
  • Patients should sleep with their head elevated, either in a recliner or using stacked pillows or a wedge pillow in bed. This minimizes swelling.
  • Swelling and tightness are normal and will diminish in the weeks following surgery.
  • Sutures are typically removed within 10 to 14 days.
  • Many patients may feel ready to return to work at a desk job after one week, and most feel comfortable resuming social activities within two weeks.
  • Strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and rigorous exercise are prohibited for at least three to four weeks. Dr. Stephens will let you know when you are cleared to return to your usual activities.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a valuable recovery tool that can speed recovery, reduce swelling, and manage discomfort. Dr. Stephens can recommend a qualified MLD practitioner during your recovery.

When Will I See My Male Facelift and Neck Lift Results?

Your initial male facelift and neck lift results are typically obscured by swelling, even if improvements are visible in the first few weeks following surgery.

Although early improvements appear in the first couple of weeks, deeper tissues continue to settle over several months, and the final result emerges gradually. Your final results will emerge gradually over the next few months as swelling resolves and tissues heal and settle.

Male facelift and necklift results are long-lasting, with many patients enjoying their youthful, refreshed appearance for 10 to 15 years or longer. To preserve your results, it’s essential to use sun protection and maintain a healthy lifestyle. To improve skin quality, a good skincare regimen and procedures such as laser resurfacing are recommended to extend the longevity of your results.
