BBL® HERO™ is a breakthrough technology utilizing Sciton® ‘s BBL® platform, the undisputed industry leader in intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments. This device uses an advanced computer scanning platform that produces a seamless and continuous application of high-energy light to the targeted area of the skin. The system improves on the already effective Sciton® BBL® (BroadBand Light) technology, which was limited to treating the face and neck through manual light pulses. By using scanning software, individualized treatment can address any skin area virtually anywhere on the face and body.

BroadBand Light is very effective at correcting sun and environmental damage, including pigmented spots, freckles, irregularities, small blood vessels, and capillaries. It is also utilized in the treatment of rosacea and active acne and has been scientifically proven to activate the increased collagen and elastin production in the skin while thickening the dermis.

In fact, repeated treatments have anti-aging effects that reverse accumulated damage to the skin, making HERO™ an effective way to restore and maintain youthful, beautiful skin.

What Is BBL® HERO™?

Addressing visible surface imperfections to deep-rooted pigmentation and vascularity issues, HERO™ works from the epidermis into the deeper dermal layer of the skin to treat sun damage, age spots, acne, skin laxity, textural issues, and various other concerns more effectively and thoroughly than anything on the market … and there is virtually no downtime.

This revolutionary treatment offers a significant improvement in creating a translucent complexion and progressive non-surgical skin tightening.

When combined with our other advanced devices (HALO™ and Morpheus8™), this triad of devices is the leader in state-of- the-art non-surgical, energy-based skin treatments. This combination is immensely popular among our patients.

Understanding IPL Technology

IPL has been around for 20 years. In that time, Sciton® has been the industry leader in all things laser, and they consistently push the boundaries and effectiveness of non-surgical technology. BBL® is Sciton® ‘s patented, powerful, and safe IPL platform that effectively surpasses its competitors. The research that Sciton® has done in laser and light-based devices has brought considerable dividends in skin aging reversal.

IPL was initially designed to treat pigmentation irregularities, small blood vessels, capillaries, and brown and red areas. But thanks to the HERO™ software upgrade, our master aesthetician can now treat imperfections evenly and accurately. This treatment also stimulates collagen, which produces gradual non-surgical skin tightening and reduces fine lines and wrinkles (proven through studies performed at Stanford University).

This device corrects and maintains healthy skin anytime along the aging continuum (from young to mature skin). It is a one-stop shop for all skin concerns and can make you appear years younger when applied in a Forever Young treatment protocol.

It is literally an anti-aging device.

What Does Science Say?

BBL® HERO™ (which stands for High Energy Rapid Output) uses light energy that is scientifically proven to disrupt and mobilize the clearance of melanin in the skin and the number of melanocytes (the cells that cause pigmentation concerns). It can also non-invasively eliminate small blood vessels and capillaries, reduce rosacea vascularity, and profuse capillaries from environmental exposure.

With the Forever Young technology (used by HERO™), you can even reverse aging. Scientific studies done at Stanford University have proven that this device stimulates the skin cells to produce proteins and co-factors that reverse skin aging and increase collagen and elastin, resulting in younger, thicker, and more elastic skin.

In our lifetime, we lose sixty percent of our collagen. A pathognomonic sign of aging is skin atrophy from thinning of the skin and loss of collagen and elastic fibers, leaving skin that sags with deeper lines and irregularities. Unfortunately, while surgical procedures can tuck and pull loose skin tighter, they don’t address skin health and quality. Therefore, we need treatments like this to reverse sun, environmental, hormonal, and age-related damage.

Who Should Choose the BBL® HERO™?

Prejuvenation

Sun and environmental damage starts when we are kids. The skin begins to age in our early 20s, but we don’t start to notice it until our late 20s or early 30s when visible skin aging causes us to consider seeking treatment.

Initiating HERO™ Forever Young treatments before the early visible signs of skin aging reverses microscopic structural skin damage before it becomes apparent, allowing the skin to be much more supple and firm.

Prejuvenation gives a jump start on tackling the microscopic loss of collagen and elastic fibers. This breakthrough in understanding how we can prevent skin aging by utilizing this technology will prevent damage rather than play catch-up to correct it when it is more severe (however, it does a good job at that too).

If we catch skin damage early enough and continue to work on reverse skin aging, it may not be theoretically necessary to require surgical correction or do more minimally invasive procedures later.

Correction of the Skin With HERO™

The visible irregularities and skin damage can be corrected with a series of HERO™ treatments by reversing sun damage, increasing collagen production, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It will reduce redness and even out brown lesions, leaving more translucent, smoother skin.

Maintenance

Maintaining your youthful and translucent complexion requires consistent and continual care. We recommend our patients undergo BBL® HERO™ treatments four times a year to maintain and accelerate benefits.

How Is BBL® HERO™ Performed?

The BBL® HERO™ handpiece is moved methodically across the target area, treating large and small regions over the face and body. It has a built-in chiller tip that keeps the skin’s surface cool and comfortable and controls the surface temperature of the skin to prevent burns.

One of the most notable and unique qualities of the BBL® HERO™ system is the interchangeable light filters used to target different lesions selected by the aesthetician. The highly efficient, high-intensity pulsed-light energy from the handpiece reaches the deeper levels of the epidermis and dermis. This eliminates the targeted lesions in question and produces collagen and elastin over the next several weeks and months, correcting sun damage and age-related imperfections and leaving clearer, smoother, and healthier skin.

The treatment is tolerable and comfortable without sedation in virtually 99 percent of our patients.

We highly recommend that all patients undergo maintenance treatments to maintain healthy, youthful skin. Some patients with particular skin issues may require more treatments, but all must have repeated treatments. Most patients start with two to four sessions.
